Comparing Domestic and International...

In 2009, Americans adopted nearly 100,000 children. About 87% were adopted here, with another 13% being adopted abroad.                                                                                                  Many consider Domestic Adoption to be most practical. Some families do not wish to travel abroad, or cannot be far from their employment.                                                                                                  Others consider International Adoption to be more practical. Adoptive parents are matched with waiting children that are already legally available for adoption.
Adoption News...                                                                                                                  Most families qualify for the Federal Adoption Tax Credit per the year they complete their case. Credits are typically $10,000 (or more) per each adopted child, and can be used to reduce taxes owed. Unused amounts are carried forward into following tax years. Consult your tax preparer, or IRS publications for details.                                                                                                                  The Hague Convention continues to reduce international placements, and actually increases the cost of adopting through accredited agencies. Jamaica, Serbia, and Taiwan, are nations not subject to the treaty, are Hague exempt, and continue to be affordable places to adopt.
